Tried designing a new species, and this came out. The anatomy is whack in so many ways but eh, the idea is there I suppose.
On Niflheim Magic
All demonic magic (aka magic from Niflheim) has it’s basis in shadow magic. no matter how the demon manages to use this ‘negative energy’, the basis is shadows, so even healing, ice or fire demon magic has a shadow core.
Shadows from the Shadow Realm however, are something like an embodyment of this magic, and are thus pure magic… a magic that hungers for ‘positives’. Mainly, they hunger for souls, ideally of Valhallans since they are the ‘sweetest’, but any Midgardian or even a Demon of pure heart will do.
Only those Demons with Surtur blood can command these embodyments of magic, the rest can only manipulate the essence of Shadow magic. This is why Surturs are so much more powerful than regular demons.
Certain high-ranking, powerful Surturs… those that belong to the royal bloodline, can not only bend the shadows to their will, but can take on Shadow Servants, commanding over certain shadows who become something akin to slaves to that Demon. This contract is dangerous, and very powerful. With a Sadow Contract, the Demon has access to even more powerful magic.
The more shadows a High Surtur can command, the more powerful they are. Only two have command over all Shadows… the Queen or King of Niflheim, and the Queen or King of Muspelheim. Ceranda proved just how powerful she was by creating a ‘tangible’ shadow, Vitlo, whom she commands at will while being a servant to her, and a ‘spokesperson’ of the Shadows of the Layer.
Alpha in Progress
As of writing this, I am uploading the Virtual Pet Site script I bought months ago to begin tweaking and working on Midgardia’s Alpha version. First step of many but I hope this means I’ll actually be working on the site instead of letting it sit there and accumulate dust.
I will be letting in a trickle of people to help me out as I work on the site, so if you’re interested in joining and helping out, leave a comment with this post with your email, and why you think you’d be a good asset to the pre-alpha signups.
Working on species images, and the style for the site. Here’s the Murian (Tentative name), a mix of flying bunny and lion. I’m rather pleased with the style in this picture, I hope you all like it too!
Artists and Ideas
While I have many of the furry species thought out for Midgardia, I wil openly admit I’m not that great at drawing reptiles in general, nor am I that good of a bug creator. Thus why I’d love to get some feedback from those interested in designing/drawing for Midgardia. I have one person who said she’d help with some reptile creatures, and I may also ask of her a wolf-like species.
Related to this, if anyone has any species types they want to see covered, or some crazy mixes that’d make for interesting species, let us know in the forums!
Setting up the Website
After a year or so of having pretty much nothing up here, I’ve finally gotten around to preparing the way for Midgardia’s first release. I’ve already taken some steps towards the initial Alpha version, which will feature quad versions of what I hope will be an almost entirely Anthro roleplay site, and in the meantime, I’ve been making ‘growable’ Squiby adopts for people to take home with them. In the coming days I hope to finish setting this page up and releasing sneak previews of what’s to come.
I invite everyone to sign up at the forums and become a bit more active, and news of how to get into the Alpha version will be posted here soon.
